Building information modelling is a design tool used to create a virtual 3D world.
The whole building is designed in one single model file. All the plans, elevations, sections, details and schedules are created from that one model file.
This dramatically reduces co-ordination problems, allowing greater communication between design and construction teams. The same model file can be worked on by the structural and service engineers.
